On August 10, UNOS will implement a new policy regarding simultaneous liver-kidney (SLK) allocation. This new policy, approved by the Board of Directors in June 2016, is the result of over a decade of work drafting proposed language, data analysis, and consensus building. The policy will require liver and kidney programs to report new data on the liver and kidney waiting lists and will also require OPOs to check eligibility status prior to allocating a kidney with a liver.
Participants will understand the three elements of the new policy: 1) SLK medical eligibility criteria; 2) SLK allocation rules; 3) Kidney “safety net”—prioritization for liver recipients on the kidney waiting list in the first year after liver transplant
Participants will gain knowledge about changes to liver and kidney waiting list functionality around the new policy and documentation required for compliance
Participants will be able to locate tools and educational resources associated with the new policy.
