FR07 - The "Science" of IVIG and Antibodies

Feb 15, 2013 11:30am ‐ Feb 15, 2013 12:00pm

Description

A single, N-linked glycosylation is present in the Fc of all IgG antibodies. The composition of that glycan dictates the effector functions of the antibody. Specifically, the addition of terminal sialic acid to the terminus of the Fc glycan converts IgG antibody to anti-inflammatory mediators, which are believed to be the active component of high dose IVIG.
