AST 2013 - Cutting Edge of Transplantation

FR11 - Paired Exchange: Better?

Feb 15, 2013 5:00pm ‐ Feb 15, 2013 5:30pm

Description

KPD is a rapidly growing modality for facilitating transplantation for patients with health, willing, but incompatible live donors. For some patients, KPD is the better choice; for some, desensitization is the better choice. For broadly sensitized patients, combining KPD and desensitization is the only reasonable path to successful transplantation. In this talk, we will cover advances in KPD as well as strategies for phenotyping patients who would benefit from KPD, desensitization, or both.

What You'll Take Away from His Talk:

  • Understand the latest advances in KPD, including use of compatible pairs, organ shipping, chains, and mathematical optimization.
  • Determine whether a patient with certain characteristics (broadness of PRA, strength of DSA, blood type) will benefit from KPD, desensitization, or a combination of both.
