Dr. Kumar graduated with honors from M.P. Shah Medical College in Gujarat, India. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and served as a chief resident in the Department of Medicine. She was there for several years there at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine where she won numerous faculty teaching awards. Thereafter, at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, she completed a clinical and research fellowship in Nephrology followed by a transplant nephrology fellowship at University of Alabama in Birmingham . She joined faculty at UAB in 2007 and is now the transplant nephrology fellowship director and an Associate Professor of Medicine. Her clinical and research interests include high immunologic risk solid organ transplants as well as incompatible kidney transplant, kidney paired donation as well as living donation and medical education. She is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.
